Track welding

Joint and build-up welding work

Track welding includes all joint and build-up welding work on all steel track materials. With a fleet of modern vehicles and welding equipment, we provide full coverage in all the Federal States.

The use of road-rail systems enables us to perform welding work more effectively, particularly for maintenance work, because time and manpower-intensive set-up times can be reduced. Level crossings and sections of track at road level in loading and unloading yards are frequently necessary to drive the vehicle onto the track.

Below are details of the services we provide:

  • Alumino-thermal joint welding, using SKV, SKV-L and SmWF welding techniques for flat-bottom (Vignol) rails and using SRZ and SRE welding techniques for grooved rails
  • Rail joint welding using arc welding methods (E, MF) on Vignol and grooved rails
  • Welding work on other steel track materials
  • Heat treatment for rails (pearlite transformation and flame heating)
  • Manufacture of insulated joints (MT) on the track in service
  • Build-up arc welding on rails and crossings
  • Site management for performing stress equalisation during the production of continuously welded rails and switches
  • Provision of logistics services using vehicles from our modern fleet (e.g. MB Vario 814 D ZW 70 R road-rail vehicle)
  • Repair and inspection of Tremolo macrophone systems (DB AG design) in approved workshops with certified staff

Certificates

In order to perform track welding work, specific requirements are to be met in accordance with the Deutsche Bahn AG Directive 826.1010, which must be verified by means of a certificate of competence. The Bahnbau Group subsidiaries can verify this by means of the certificate of competence No. SLV Ha/826/Class1/069/1/2000, issued by the Welding Technology Education and Research Institute in Hanover.

For the site management required to perform stress equalisation during the production of continuously welded rails and switches, in accordance with Deutsche Bahn AG Directive 826.1030, it must also be demonstrated that the requirements of a specialist company with a certificate of competence are met. Here again, we can verify this by means of the certificate of competence No. B 010, issued by DB Netz AG's railway engineering supervisory authority, Central Track Measurement.
