The Bahnbau Group receives dismantled track material for reconditioning and recycling throughout Germany.

At a total of six locations, used ballast, sleepers, track panels and fastenings are checked by specialist staff according to directives for the track superstructure and then sent for reconditioning or disposal.

Every year more than 1,000,000 timber sleepers and 700,000 concrete sleepers are supplied to the collection points and storage depots of DB Bahnbau GmbH, DBG and DGT and inspected to establish whether they can be recycled. In addition, 100,000 tonnes of railway ballast are reconditioned at the Duisburg location according to Railway Standard 918061. The Bahnbau Group also stores and processes new materials at all locations.

The Bahnbau Group collection points and storage depots are equipped with state-of-the-art technology. An exemplary infrastructure with crane installations, storage areas, track and road connections and shunting locomotives ensures smooth and customer-oriented order handling.

In stationary production, the Bahnbau Group focuses on 4 key areas:

  • dismantling and assembly of track panels
  • recycling of track sleepers
  • treatment of bridge sleepers
  • reconditioning of concrete sleepers and track fastening material.

Assembled track panels made of timber, concrete or steel are produced in various lengths in accordance with customers' wishes. The use of short lengths in tight curves ensures that the sleepers are laid in the due manner. The assembly and loading plans are prepared in agreement with the customer.All stationary installations are certified to the level of a specialist waste disposal company pursuant to Section 52 of the Recycling and Waste Management Act. The individual companies of the Bahnbau Group are Q1 suppliers of DB AG for reconditioned prestressed concrete sleepers according to Railway Standard 918146 and for the assembly of track panels according to Directive 820.01. In addition, they have the "Manufacturer-Related Product Qualification" certificate for the production of track products, for the manufacture of reconditioned prestressed concrete sleepers B70, B58, B55, Bs 65, Bs 66, for recycled ballast and the assembly of track panels. All of this is a guarantee for providing the highest quality of work and service.
